Give a Flock for Gough!

Hi! I’m Emma, AKA tinyelbows. Little known fact, but birds are my favourite animals, and I’m passionate about efforts to conserve dwindling species.

You may not have heard of a place called Gough Island, but it’s out there, in the South Atlantic Ocean. A pristine wilderness, isolated, and inhabited mostly by albatross, petrels, prions, and a few other bird species that nest nowhere else in the world.

Or, it would be pristine, save for one big, small problem:

Mus musculus. The house mouse.

These rodent invaders are killing around two million birds a year, literally eating chicks alive. These birds species, evolved without the capacity to adequately defend themselves, are on track to become extinct within a decade or two.

Fortunately, there is hope. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is attempting a restoration program on Gough Island in 2020, by spreading rodenticide bait, but they need to bridge a 2 million pound funding shortfall in order to be successful.

For the next week, starting today until Saturday the 14th of December, I’ll be raising money to help this restoration. You can donate here: https://streamlabs.com/tinyelbows

There’s going to be a lot of fun things happening on the tinyelbows stream this week, where I’ll be attempting a 100% run of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, so stay tuned for times, milestones and prizes!

X!
